Testing and certificates

Safety checks (EICR) and PAT testing

An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is a full safety check of the wiring in a home or business. I test the installation and write up what I find. I'm certified in inspection and testing.

Questions

Questions people ask

What do the codes on an EICR mean?
C1 means immediate danger. Action must be taken to remove the danger. C2 means potentially dangerous and must be rectified within 28 days. C3 means improvement recommended. FI means something needs looking into further. A report with a C1 or C2 will lead to an unsatisfactory report.
How often do I need one?
Landlords are legally required to have an inspection carried out at least every 5 years, and to give each new tenant a copy of the most recent report before they move in. For homeowners, while not a legal requirement, an inspection is highly recommended every 10 years, when buying a new property, or if the wiring is old.
What to expect on the day
Power interruptions. Circuits are turned off for periods during testing.Full inspection. A thorough check on your consumer unit, fittings and the condition of your wiring.Clear reporting. You will receive a detailed report with my findings, outlining the condition of your installation alongside any relevant safety codes.
Who requires PAT testing?
Businesses, employers and landlords are legally responsible for ensuring all provided electrical appliances are safe to use. While the law doesn't specify a strict frequency, routine portable appliance testing (PAT) is the industry standard for maintaining safety compliance and providing vital documentation for insurance and legal purposes.
