In your home
Rewires
Full and partial rewires, in empty houses and in homes people are still living in. Furniture is sheeted, dust is extracted as I chase the walls, and every new circuit is tested and certified before I leave.
What I do
What's covered
- Full rewires
- Complete installation of new wiring and fixtures throughout your entire property. If your consumer unit (fuse box) needs an update, it will be taken care of during the process.
- Partial rewires
- You don't always need a full rewire. I can rewire specific areas, like a newly renovated kitchen, a new bathroom, an extension, or just the circuits flagged during an EICR.
- Working in occupied homes
- Chasing walls for cables creates dust. I prioritise keeping this to a minimum. I use protective sheeting, use an M-class dust extractor on the chasing equipment, and thoroughly vacuum before leaving.
- Tested and certified
- Every new circuit is tested and you will receive a certificate for your records.

Questions
Questions people ask
- How do I know if my house needs a rewire?
- Old black rubber-coated cables (VIR), a fuse box with wire fuses, regular tripping issues or faults starting to appear on circuits, lack of outlets throughout your property, visibly old accessories. The surest way to know is a safety check (EICR). Your property's wiring and electrical accessories will be inspected and tested to tell you what is safe, what isn't and the general condition of the wiring.
- Can I stay in the house while it is rewired?
- The short answer is yes. I rewire homes with people living in them, although rewiring an unoccupied property will always make the process easier. I will work room by room, sheet the furniture, extract the dust and vacuum as I go. Some of the work will require power to be switched off, and I will let you know beforehand.
- Will I need to redecorate afterwards?
- Yes, you will need to redecorate the rooms being rewired. To install new cables, I have to chase (cut) channels into the walls. They will need to be filled in afterwards, then the walls can be repainted or wallpapered. Because of this, it is always best to schedule a rewire before you redecorate, rather than after.
- Does the fuse box need to be changed?
- Not always, but older boards rarely meet current UK regulations (BS 7671). Modern standards require Type A RCDs or individual RCBOs alongside surge protection. If your board is outdated, upgrading it during a rewire is the most cost-effective way. If your current unit is relatively modern, safety features like an SPD can sometimes be retrofitted without replacing the whole board.
